This Serene Home Has an Intriguing Outdoor Bathtub

After these homeowners took a trip to Southeast Asia they were inspired to transform their California midcentury, post-and-beam structure into a tranquil escape from everyday life that flowed between the indoors and out. Natural decor elements (like reclaimed wood and stone) and large windows and doors are the somewhat expected methods they used to achieve their dream house — but a few very interesting places to wash up are what really make this home memorable.

Sure, the master bathroom has a gorgeous clawfoot tub and a granite shower, but that’s not what we’re talking about: It’s the guest home’s stone-lined shower with a matching bench and glass doors that lead directly to the backyard that caught our eye. Let’s just say you’d have to be pretty friendly with the homeowners to want to shower there:

Even crazier? The in-ground ​outdoor bathtub. Yes, you read that right: A secluded patio features a fire kiln, sunken tub, and reclining chair — you know, in case the bather wants company or (even better) to dry off au natural.

If we had to describe the rest of the home, we’d go with yoga retreat chic. Minimalistic decor and cozy furniture makes every room the ideal place for meditation. The spacious kitchen and dining room have direct access to the patio with an outdoor kitchen that’s shaded by grapevines. And possibly the most appropriate of all is the master bedroom that connects to a yoga studio for those early morning or before-bed sessions.
