President Hoover Stayed at This Sierra Madre Home, Listed at $3.8 Million

By Sandra Berrera

A circa-1928 California hacienda-style estate that President Herbert Hoover often visited as it belonged to his eldest son and namesake is for sale in Sierra Madre. The asking price is $3.75 million.

Within the white stuccoed, red tile roof home’s 5,810 square feet are seven bedrooms, six bathrooms and what used to be a child’s playroom with a built-in slide designed by “Winnie the Pooh” author A.A. Milne.

Herbert Hoover, Jr. added the playroom for the benefit of his three children. While living in the home from 1932 to 1943, his family often hosted the president and first lady.

President Hoover held office from 1929 to 1933. Seven months into his administration, the stock market crashed and the U.S. plunged into the Great Depression.
