It was built at a time when architects realized they could use steel to cantilever their clients out into nature (whether that be in the Hollywood Hills or the canyons of Pasadena) rendering previously unbuildable lots merely challenging sites. Essentially a modest home, this 3-bed, 2-bath Post + Beam Style has been both well-cared for and sensitively updated, and it beckons like a lantern in the arroyo’s native oaks.

What We Love: It reminds us of an Eichler floating through woods– although all the houses Eichler built were firmly rooted to their sites. At the same moment, houses cantilevered into the woods or crossing streams were popping up in other  hotbeds of Modernist design like New Canaan, CT as well as Pasadena.
