Midcentury post and beam perched above a creek asks $1.45M

This elegant home also functions as a bridge, of sorts, crossing over a creek bed less than a half mile west of the Arroyo Seco as it cuts through Pasadena. The (almost) unique design is by architect JW Putnam, who also designed three other creek spanning houses in the area—including one that hit the market in 2014 asking $1.5 million.

This particular house, constructed in 1955, has clearly been updated over the years, but its primary design features appear to have been left intact. These include walls of glass, beamed ceilings, hardwood floors, and an open living room-dining area separated only by a large stone fireplace.

Propped up on stilts, the home stretches across the creek bed below, with deck space alongside the house offering views of the very lush surroundings. According to the listing description, the trees that surround the home are indigenous, and provide ample amounts of both shade and privacy.

The three-bedroom, 2,267 square-foot home sits on a half-acre lot and features plenty of yard space to enjoy those above-mentioned indigenous trees. There’s also a pleasant-looking patio area accessed from the living room that is shaded by a long overhang extending from the main structure. Asking price is $1.449 million.
